Out and About in Ashburton
Ashburton is set in the Dartmoor National Park in the heart of the South Devon countryside. It is situated half way between Plymouth and Exeter on the A38 (30 minutes to either). Ashburton is not only a splendid gateway to Dartmoor, but is also the ideal base from which to explore the whole region from Moor to sea.Ashburton is a thriving market town with lots to offer. There is a variety of shops, including two delicatessens and a wine merchant, three bookshops, numerous antique and gift shops and a couple of fantastic butchers. The town has its own open air swimming pool, many wonderful local walks and a great atmosphere.
The scenery in the area is glorious in all the weather's moods and offers visitors opportunities for walking, pony trekking, canoeing, fishing and - if you like - just pottering.
